  9. Introduction • The opportunity to pursue continuing education, increased industry involvement and industry-wide recognition by achieving the CMP designation. • The CMP program was established in 1985 • Over 13,000 individuals in 35 countries and territories have earned the CMP designation.

  10. Requirements • Three years of work experience in the industry. • Candidates with a degree in meeting, event, exhibition, and hospitality/tourism management can apply after two years of work experience. • Full-time instructors in a meeting/hospitality university program may also be eligible. • Completion of twenty-five hours of continuing education or an approved internship/apprenticeship in the industry.  • Responsibility and accountability for the successful completion of meetings

Course Topics • EDUCATION: Goals and Objectives; Program Content; Evaluations; Continuing Education. • FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Facility Contracts and Insurance; Budgeting. • FACILITIES AND SERVICES: Site and Facility Selection; Support Services; Convention Center Facilities; Convention Service Management Responsibilities; Facilities Staff; Technology Utilization. • LOGISTICS: Reservations and Housing; Transportation; Specifications Guidebook; Registration; Shipping; Function Room Arrangements; Exhibits; Environmental/ Humanitarian Aspects. • PROGRAM: Food and Beverage; Audiovisual Needs; Speakers; Entertainment; Marketing, Promotion and Publicity; Special Programs;

Examination • It lasts three and one half hours and includes 165 multiple-choice questions on the functions a typical meeting professional performs. • An independent testing agency will score examinations, reports to examinees and keeps examination records. • Details could be found in the handbook.

  14. Examination-English as a Second Language • Candidates whose primary language is not English may request an additional thirty (30) minutes of time in which to take the examination.
