  3. English III AP/Dual Credit LEARNING OUTCOMES • The ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and apply insights to writing assignments, presentations, and discussions • The ability to understand and appreciate writer’s craft and apply techniques to writing

English III AP/Dual Credit LEARNING OUTCOMES • The ability to read extensively and intensively for different purposes in varied sources with an emphasis on American literature, nonfiction essays, and scholarly articles • The ability to analyze rhetorical devices/strategies for their contributions to meaning in fiction and nonfiction texts

English III AP/Dual Credit SUMMER READING • The Grapes of Wrath and The Crucible • Purchase tonight from Barnes & Noble or check out from school after July 1 • Start edmodo account and join group in order to view/read background materials over the summer • Summer reading assignment will be distributed through 10th grade English class

  7. Spanish I, II, and III SUPPLIES • Loose leaf paper • Pens and pencils • Composition notebook/spiral notebook • Pocket folder / subject folder • Media storage

  8. Spanish I, II, and III WORKLOAD • Might have homework every night • Spend 20-30 minutes of practice or studying each night • Don’t fall behind on work and practice- it doubles your workload to catch up with the rest of the class

  10. Spanish I, II, and III AP EXAM—WHY TAKE IT? You can possibly get a minor without taking a Spanish course in college.

  12. Dual Credit Courses • Juniors and seniors can take two dual credit courses. • Grades for dual credit are reflected on the high school transcript AND the college transcript. Credits are transferable to any Texas public university. • Dual Credit courses are taught on the high school campus by the high school teacher and may be taught concurrently with AP courses.

Dual Credit Courses • Courses are more academically challenging than traditional high school courses, will include different requirements for each course, and will result in a SEPARATE college grade for each course. • Grades earned in dual credit become part of the PERMANENT ACADEMIC RECORD and will be recorded on the college transcript. Students must attend their Dual Credit class regularly and may be withdrawn for lack of attendance and/or lack of progress. • Students who make a D or an F in a Dual Credit class will not be allowed to continue in the Dual Credit program. • A D or F or dropping a course could affect later financial aid.

Dual Credit Courses • Students are responsible for knowing and adhering to the drop deadlines for withdrawal on the Alamo Colleges Academic calendar (should his/her grade fall below a C). • If a student plagiarizes a paper or colludes or cheats in any dual credit class, the student will be subject to the discipline policies and procedures of the college; severe cases may result in failure of the course and suspension from the dual credit program.

  15. Dual Credit Courses REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS • Parent/Student Consent From • Students new to Dual Credit also had to complete the Apply Texas. • Qualifying Test Scores All requirements MUST meet the Northwest Vista deadlines.

  16. Dual Credit Courses QUALIFYING TEST SCORES • Accuplacer testing was offered on campus in February. Students that did not qualify have been given information about retesting at Vista. • Some students waited to qualify via their TAKS scores. If they did not qualify for their chosen courses, Mrs. Antoon will be contacting them.

  17. Dual Credit Courses • Many Dual Credit courses have prerequisites • Qualifying scores vary for the different courses. • MATH: Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB/ BC, Statistics, College Algebra • SCIENCE: Biology, Environmental Science • English 3 and English 4 • Spanish 3
