  10. Planned system topology

  11. Objectives • Improve connection reliability with crates in the pit 2) Enable remote monitoring of HV parameters 3) Enable remote control of HV parameters 4) Enable possibility for HV status logging 5) Allow possibility to send warnings to expert in case of malfunction

  12. RS232 mux candidates Remote Access Terminal Server Price: 840EUR !!! Distrelec Price ~400USD Have to be order from US Price: 420 CHF at Distrelec Deliver time: ? Techmania – stack empty Tech Mania 35CHF Topd 65CHF

  13. DELOCK OHC computers, Topd ~ 90CHF Not as elegant as Terminal Servers, but cheap!

  14. Hardware

  15. Aging problem • Communication problem persist with TOF-R crate 4! • Problems are typical aging problem (bad contact between connectors, chips and sockets etc…) • Decide to open Crate 4 in very bad working conditions • Communication restored, but we lose 2 HV distributors!

  16. QDC distribution - before

  17. QDC distribution - after

  18. TDC – single bad pixel

  19. TDC – multi bad pixel

  20. Before: 34 bad pixel (random) After: 30 (random) Before: 34 bad pixel (random) After: 30 (random) Before: 34 bad pixel (random) After: 30 (random) ToF-R bad pixels Before: 34 single bad pixel (random) After: 30 single bad pixel (random)

  21. ToF-R bad pixels Additional 59 bad pixel (4 already in random!) Crate 4, distributors 3 and 6 – 37 new bad pixel Crate 1, distributor 5 – 22 new bad pixel (HV Off!)

  22. Summary At the end of 2011 proton run ToF-L : 87 (bad pixel) (9.7%) + 17 (suspicious) (1.9%) - ------------------- 104 (11.6%) Before intervention: ToF-R: 34 (random bad pixel) After intervention: ToF-R: 30 (random bad pixel) + 37 (due to the intervention, Crate 4) + 22 (unknown reason, Crate 1) - ------------------- 89 (10.0%)

  23. Conclusion • Control and monitoring hardware upgrade successful! • For ION run, remote control, monitoring and data logging of HV status will be possible • Problems: urgently needs for spare parts for CAEN HV system, TDC and QDC • Without spare parts, the future will not be bright for ToF-LR!

  24. THE END
