  2. American Political Culture • Democracy • Popular sovereignty • Majority rule • Minority rights • The rule of law • Individual freedoms/civil liberties • Capitalism/economic freedom/private property

American Political Culture • Even though Americans share many values, there are many disagreements. • How free should the market be? • How much liberty? • What if our liberties conflict with our security interests? • What if our liberties conflict with someone’s concept of morality? • Hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan • Abortion
