The BackgroundONGOING PROJECT :India Steel Organizing Project • Organizing in the Steel Sector in India • Indian economy is emerging fast with high growth rates with rapid growth of steel production in India from 19 Mt in 2003 to 40Mt in 2008.India has large reserves of iron ore and has signed numerous MOUs/Proposals for large investments with international steel giants like Arcellor, Geruda and Posco etc • Increasing proportion of precarious workers. • HARDLY ANY AWARENESS AND IMPLEMENTION OF INTERNATIONAL GUIDELEINES. • NEED OF TRAINING TO YOUNG LEADERS

Objectives • To contribute and improve the working and living conditions of all workers in the Steel & Mining sectors in the selected areas. • To promote organising and membership among the unorganized and precarious workers. • To contribute to create awareness and build capacity among the trade union leaders and unionists about INTERNATIONAL GUIDELINES and collective Bargaining and negotiation. • CARRIED OUT AT: • HMS : HINDUJA FOUNDARIES LTD,HYDERABAD • INTUC : TATA WORKERS UNION,TATANAGAR FUNDS TO BE PROVIDED BY: LOCAL UNIONA AND INMF & SMEFI CAMPAIGN PLANNING & SUPPORT BY : IMF IMPLEMENTED BY : LOCAL UNION

ACTIVITIES • TRAINING OF YOUNG TRADE UNION LEADERS(MALE & FEMALE) on Collective bargaining and Negotiating( TARGET : 100 YOUTH IN EACH AREA) • PREPARE A HAND BOOK ON COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AND NEGOTIATION FOR DISTRIBUTION AMONG UNION LEADERS( 2000 COPIES) • TRANSLATION IN LOCAL LANGUAGE (HINDI & TELGU)OF MNE DECLARATION AND OECD GUIDELINES.( 1000 NOS. EACH LANGUAGE.) • CAMPAIGN ON ORGANISING THE UNORGANISED AND PRECARIOUS WORKERS ( Posters, Press conference, seminars) TO CREATE AWARENESS AMONG PUBLIC ,GOVT AND MEDIA TO CREATE FAVOURABLE AND POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR THEM • TO ORGANISE HEALTH CAMPS FOR CONTRACTUAL AND PRECARIOUS WORKERS TO ENHANCE MEMBERSHIP. (6 CAMPS IN EACH AREA EVERY MONTH ,JULY ONWARDS)

  5. TARGET GROUP • Union leaders male & female under the age of 45 yrs. • Contractual workers and Precarious workers • Media professionals • Employers & Govt.

  6. THANK YOU EXPECTED OUTPUT: 200 YOUNG LEADERS TRAINED WITH ENHANCED SKILLS OF NEGOTIATION AND COLLECTIVE BARGAINING. 25 NOS . IDENTIFIED AS TRAINERS TO CARRY OUT SIMILAR TAINING IN OTHER UNION. (RESOURCE FOR FUTURE PLANS) HAND BOOK ON COLLECTIVE BARGAINING & NEGOTIATING SKILLS TRANSLATED INTERNATIONAL GUIDELINES IN 2 REGIONAL LANGUAGES AWARENESS ON INTERNATIONAL GUIDELINES AMONG MEDIA ,EMPLOYERS, GOVT., TU LEADERS AND WORKERS ENHANCED ORGANISING AND MEMBERSHIP AMONG UNORGANISED AND PRECARIOUS WORKERS
