  3. PROJECT GOALS • Help students chart pathways to college • Highlight Washington requirements • Highlight Washington resources and opportunities

  4. PROJECT RESOURCES • 23 lesson plans, grades 6-12 • WA State resources • Aligned with standards • Common Core State Standards (Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening, Language) • EALR GLEs (Writing, Communication, Educational Technology) • ASCA National Standards

  5. LESSON FORMAT • Lesson plans are 3 pages • Each includes: • Lesson goals • Alignment with standards • Materials needed • Core, enrichment, exploration activities • List of Washington resources • Student worksheet, family handout • Many are packaged with Power Point presentations

  6. STUDENT WORKSHEET FORMAT • All worksheets are included in lesson plan packages • Guide students through activities and resources • Promote self-reflection • Demonstrate learning

  7. FAMILY HANDOUT FORMAT • Introduce families to college and career issues • Recap lessons to start family discussions • Provide links to Washington resources

  8. PRESENTATION FORMAT • Many lessons include Power Point presentations • Presentations share resources and info • Engage students • Deepen understanding

  9. GRADES 6-7 • 3 lessons on preparing for the future • Help make middle school count • Lessons on: • Intro to STEM • Explore Apprenticeship • HS & Beyond Plan

  10. GR 6-7: INTRO TO STEM • Introduces 4 components of STEM • Explains importance of STEM • Shows how students can do STEM • Easy to customize with your district’s programs

  11. GR 6-7: EXPLORE APPRENTICESHIP • Introduces concept of apprenticeship • Explores LNI web site • Shows many careers students can pursue • Easy to customize with your district’s programs

  12. GR 6-7: HS & BEYOND PLAN • Introduces students to HS graduation requirements • Students think ahead to set goals for high school • Start planning now for course goals in high school

  13. GRADES 6-8 • 3 lessons span all 3 middle school grades • Help students think ahead to high school • Lessons on: • Career Interest Survey • College Bound Scholarship • GET Savings

  14. GR 6-8: CAREER INTEREST SURVEY • Guides students through an interest survey • Helps them identify potential career areas • Shows postsecondary training options • Based on SBCTC’s Check Out A College

  15. GR 6-8: COLLEGE BOUND SCHOLARSHIP • Introduces the College Bound Scholarship • Helps students and families determine if they are eligible • Encourages application for eligible students

  16. GR 6-8: GET SAVINGS PROGRAM • Explains the value of saving • Introduces the Guaranteed Education Tuition (GET) Program • Offers optional financial literacy lessons from Dept of Financial Institutions

  17. GRADE 8 • 4 lessons specifically for Grade 8 students • Each focuses on high school transition • Lessons on: • HS graduation requirements • HS course selection • HS & Beyond Plan • Postsecondary admission

  18. GR 8: HS GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS • Introduces students to HS graduation requirements • Students can plan ahead • Explains difference between graduation requirements and college admission requirements

  19. GR 8: MAKING THE MOST OF HS • Provides a guide to high school course planning • Ties courses to students’ goals • Introduces resources for students: dual credit, honors, CTE, etc.

  20. GR 8: HS & BEYOND PLAN • Students set goals for life after high school • Complete a preliminary HS & Beyond Plan checklist • Learn about reason for HS & Beyond Plan requirement

  21. GR 8: POSTSECONDARY ADMISSION • Introduces college admission requirements • Focuses on WA public colleges • Connects high school work to admissions process

  22. GRADES 9-10 • 6 lessons specifically for Grade 9-10 students • Focus is on making the most of high school • Lessons on: • Career Interests • HS graduation requirements, course selection, HS & Beyond Plan • Postsecondary Admission • Paying for College

  23. GR 9-10: WHERE ARE YOU GOING? • Students complete career interest inventory • Introduces Workforce Training Board’s Where Are You Going guide • Students connect interests to education

  24. GR 9-10: MAKING THE MOST OF HS • 3-lesson series covers: • HS graduation requirements • HS course planning • HS & Beyond Plan • Lessons help students find CTE, Skills Center, dual credit opportunities

  25. GR 9-10: POSTSECONDARY ADMISSIONS • Students review college admission requirements • Research entry requirements of a college choice • Plan for remaining years in high school

  26. GR 9-10: PAYING FOR COLLEGE • Students review financial aid concepts • Register at theWashBoard.org • Identify at least one scholarship match

  27. GRADES 11-12 • 7 lessons specifically for Grade 11-12 students • 1 lesson on career exploration • 3 lessons on making the most of high school • 3 lessons on preparing for postsecondary

  28. GR 11-12: CAREER BRIDGE • Career exploration based on WA Career Bridge • Students explore postsecondary programs for careers of interest • Students research postsecondary requirements
