  1. Elephant News November 26th-30th • This Week’s Studies: • This week we will: • study the letters “Yy” and “Qq” and their sounds • represent, compare, and order sets up to 20 in math; write numbers 11-20 • review our sight words • identify rhyming pairs • learn how things move during Science • recognize and identify U.S. symbols during Social Studies • ***Please remember, to demonstrate mastery of letters, your child needs to know its name, write it, and use the sound. To demonstrate mastery of numbers, your child needs to know its name, write it, and show objects to match it. • To demonstrate mastery of sight words your child should be able to recognize the word in several different settings (alone, in sentences, or in books) • FYI • Arrival time: Please remember arrival time for students begins at 8:05. Students are not permitted to enter the classroom prior to 8:05. • We have been practicing putting in our lunch numbers together in the cafeteria (if purchasing milk or lunch). Our goal is to independently enter our lunch numbers by January. Please have your child practice memorizing his/her lunch number at home. I have included your child’s lunch number in today’s folder. • Brrr! It’s getting cold out there! Please make sure your child wears a coat to school (labeled with their name…many coats look alike). We are working on independently putting on our coats and zipping/buttoning them up.  • With the colder weather comes runny noses and lots of sneezing. We are running low on our “special soap” (sanitizer). We welcome any donations. Thank you in advance!  • Skills to practice • Identify letters and their sounds • Identify sight words (alone and in books) • Blend phonemes in a CVC word (hot, pin, sap, etc.) • Identify beginning sounds in a CVC word • Identify and produce rhyming pairs READ! READ! READ! Every night for 20-30 minutes “Kindergarten teachers have always known that kids have to believe they can read before they can actually do it….” -Reggie Routman, from Reading Essentials Remember to save your box tops and soda tabs! Box tops will help earn money for our school. Soda tabs are collected, counted and sent to the Ronald McDonald House. Remember to order your SCRIP…it is money you would spend anyway and it earns money for our school! • Important Dates • December 5th-Elves’ Shelves Shopping • December 6th-Early Release • December 19th-Gingerbread House Party (more information to come) • December 20th-Kindergarten Christmas Concert (more information to come) • December 21st-January 4th (Christmas Break) • January 7th-School resumes If you every have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via the communication log in your child’s folder, email (LaPointeM@mail.okaloosa.k12.fl.us) or directly at the school (833-4100).
