  1. The Faith Fabric of Creation by Kurt P. Wise Truett-McConnell College

  2. Why I am a young-age creationist (YAC) If YAC is true, how can so many scientists be so wrong? If YAC is true, how can any other position seem reasonable?

  3. God Requires Faith Without faith it is impossible to please [God] (Heb. 11:6) Faith ≡ trusting God’s Word/character over human reason/observation (e.g. Hebrews 11). Abel (animal sacrifice covers sin… not logical) Noah (global Flood coming… never happened before) Sarah (post-menopause pregnancy… impossible) Abraham (Isaac seed… resurrection never before) Moses (go through Red Sea …Egyptians died!) Joshua (march around Jericho …impossible) Jonah (God is merciful …unwanted)

  4. God Requires Faith Without faith it is impossible to please [God] (Heb. 11:6) Faith ≡ trusting God’s Word/character over human reason/observation (e.g. Hebrews 11). because God doesn’t fit into the limits of human reason His nature: triune; holy & love… His principles: ‘first shall be last’; ‘great must serve’ His actions: Holy God became sin? etc.

  5. God Requires Faith Faith Fabric of Creation

  6. Faith Fabric of Creation • Humans created with a desire to know truth • (ultimately fulfilled only when they know Truth – • i.e. intimate relationship with Truth Himself) (2) Scripture & creation designed to reveal truth (about Truth), but impossible to know Truth w/o His Word (3) Creation underdetermined… by design (many understandings – all fall short of knowing Truth) (4) Creation designed with intellectual speed bumps (challenge, but not falsify, all positions derived from human reason/observation… cause for pause)

  7. Faith Fabric of Creation biblical example: Jesus’ 1st miracle The ‘governor’ had opportunity to be the 1st person to recognize 1st miracle of Jesus. Human reason/observation  the wine had been there for 3 days… He ignored the intellectual speed bumps… break in (Jewish) tradition quality wine in Cana? ladled into his cup (water purification jars) wasteful to bring out good wine 3 days into feast. He did not consult the eye-witness… So, he radically misinterpreted the data.

  8. Faith Fabric & Science? 1) human desire to know truth + 2) creation designed to reveal truth Science But, without Scripture, it is impossible for science to know Truth… not only to know God, but even to properly understand the physical world… especially when God is active in ‘unusual’ ways theories 3) creation underdetermined α (5% error) 4) intellectual speed bumps

  9. Application to Science The perpetually present speed bumps are to alert scientists to consider God’s Word After all, the creation says nothing. It makes not one declarative truth claim. Science is human interpretation of the data. Humans make truth claims – not the creation. In contrast, Genesis is an account of the only eye-witness – and a PERFECT eye-witness (saw, understood, remembered, and cannot lie). So eye-witness historical narrative vs. human interpretation of circumstantial evidence.

  10. And the Bible says a lot… • in the beginning, earth was formless, void, watery, and dark [Gen. 1:1-2]. • [earth began before the sun] • [earth began dark] • [on day one: Gen. 1 & 5] God said ‘Let there be light’, and there was light [Gen. 1:3]. • [1st light on earth not sunlight] • [on day one, after creating light: Gen. 1:3 & 5] God divided the light from the darkness [Gen. 1:4]. • [after the dividing of light & dark: Gen. 4] evening and morning completed day one [Gen. 1:5]. • [on 2nd day: Gen. 1:5 & 8] God made the firmament, dividing waters above & below [Gen. 1:6-7]. • [after the dividing of waters above and below: Gen. 1:7] evening & morning completed the second day [Gen. 1:8]. • [on 3rd day: Gen. 1:8 & 13] the waters were gathered together and the dry land appeared [Gen. 1:9]. [continents form in one day] • [on 3rd day, after land’s origin: Gen. 1:9 & 13] the land yielded herbs & fruit trees after their kind [Gen. 1:11- 12]. [fruit trees before sea animals]

[physical process changes] [later: Gen. 1-2] Eve, being deceived by the serpent, ate of the forbidden fruit [Gen. 3:1-6, II Cor. 11:3, & I Ti. 2:14]. After Eve ate, Adam disobeyed God [Gen. 3:6]. 13. If the earth is old God is author of biological evil (Augustinian free will theodicy won’t work) Adam & Eve are not the first humans (by hundreds of thousands or millions of years) no Scripture for hundreds of thousands or more years (Augustinian free will theodicy won’t work) humans never lived for 900+ years (Augustinian free will theodicy won’t work) Noah’s Flood was not global (did not leave any evidence) Babel is not the source of most language diversity

  14. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God…” (Heb. 11:3) I believe that the Biblical origins account is true – one that posits a young earth created in six days, followed by the origin of natural evil at the curse in response to Adam’s sin, followed centuries later by a global Flood, and centuries after that, by the origin of language diversity at Babel.
