  2. What is an EAP? • Employee Assistance Program • A work-based program that offers free and confidential assessments, short-term counseling, referrals, and follow-up services to employees and immediate family members who have personal and or work-related problems.

  3. What is the benefit of an EAP? • Covers employees and their immediate family • Spouse • Children living under your financial care • Safe, healthy, and efficient environment • Home • Work • Improves morale • Improves productivity

  4. What is included in your EAP? • 24/7/365 toll free number 1-800-999-1196 • Total program confidentiality/reporting • Calls answered by qualified professional counselors • Access to phone line as often as needed with no annual restrictions • Appropriate and timely referral services • Quality face-to-face visits with qualified professional counselors • Face-to-face visits per person, per issue, per year covered by employer • Additional visits, if needed, at employee’s expense • Promotional materials

  5. EAP assistance services include: • Depression • Job stress • Marital and relationship issues • Harassment • Alcohol/substance abuse • Separation and loss • Balancing work and family • Behavioral addictions • Including: gambling, shopping, video/computer games, exercise, etc.

There are 2 types of EAP Calls: • Voluntary calls: Made by the employee or family member to seek help for difficult or challenging situations • Mandatory calls: Employer makes the employee contact the EAP as a result of a documented problem related to poor job performance by the employee or a positive drug or alcohol test result for the employee. The employee is required to contact the EAP as a condition of their continued employment.

How does a supervisor know when to make a mandatory referral to the EAP? • Behavior/symptom checklist documentation • Absenteeism/tardiness • Conflicts with co-workers • Increased accidents/decreased productivity • Severity of the problem • Are there employee safety risks? • Is company property at risk?

In-Coming Call Sequence … • Employee, spouse and/or dependent calls 1-800-999-1196 • Professional answers the call and the discussion of the caller’s problem or issue is addressed. • Master clinician and caller will determine if a face-to-face visit is needed: • If YES…Counselor reviews caller’s needs, then makes a referral to a provider in the caller’s area. If after normal business hours, the referral will be made the next business day. The provider will call the employee to schedule an appointment. • Client pursues treatment referral. • If NO face-to-face is needed, Professional provides phone counseling to defuse situation in meeting the needs of the caller. • Professional invites caller to access the 800 number again if necessary, to resolve the issue.

Complete Confidentiality • Confidentiality is the foundation for any effective Employee Assistance Program. • Employee has the right to seek assistance and to know their problems will be kept in strict confidence • Only the employee may reveal his or her treatment • For voluntary contacts to the EAP, no information will be shared with the employer. For mandatory referrals to the EAP, basic information about the referral will be shared with the employer. Total Program Confidentiality Always!
