  1. Sango Elementary Monday, August 20, 2012 Reading Our story this week is “Thunder Rose.” The vocabulary words are: pitch, veins, daintily, thieving, devastation, branded, constructed, resourceful, lullaby. Reading comprehension and vocabulary test on “Thunder Rose” will be Friday. Our skills this week are: Distinguishing between cause/effect; determining the main idea and supporting details from text; understanding the meaning of plot, character, setting, conflict, point of view, and theme in narration. Math We will be adding and subtracting decimals this week. Students will have a test on Friday. Science We will be reviewing for the cells and photosynthesis test on Tuesday. We will also investigate food chains and food webs. The test will be on Friday. Social Studies This week we will complete our assessments of locating the 50 states on a map. We will locate cities on a map using latitude and longitude, interpret a population map for population shifts, identify the physical and political boundaries of Tennessee and recognize and compare landforms, climate, and natural resources of the three grand divisions of Tennessee. UST A REMINDER… Students will be bringing home today a “Weekly Folder.” Please sign the log verifying you have seen the items sent home, and return with the folder. You may keep the graded papers at home. Please send in lunch money in a baggie or envelope with your child’s name, teacher name, and lunch number on it. All lunch money is sent to the cafeteria at the beginning of the day. If your child is going to be dismissed at all during the school day, PLEASE send a note in to the teacher first thing in the morning. 4. Parent Intervention Meeting All parents of Sango Elementary students are invited to attend a meeting on student intervention resources. Student interventions typically occur when students do not have the skills to master the grade level curriculum or the student skill level is greatly above the grade level curriculum expectation. We will discuss the types of interventions we have in our school and how teachers provide interventions for students. The meeting will be held at Sango Elementary on August 30th at 6p.m. Grandparents day will be August 31. 5. Grades cannot be placed in Power School for the 1st 2 weeks. I will let you know when they become available.
