  2. The goal of our Physical Education curriculum is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a variety of physical activities throughout their life. 5th Grade Unit Examples

  3. Team Sport: Basketball • Learn history of how the game of Basketball originated • Learn individual skills necessary in order to successfully shoot, dribble, and pass. • Learn how to cooperate and work with peers in order to successfully participate in small games. NYS Learning Standard #2

  4. Team Sport: Basketball • Increase Fitness levels through participation in games. NYS Learning standard #1 • Learn about opportunities that exist for participation outside of the PE class (Recreation, YMCA, Modified sports). NYS Learning Standard #3 • Demonstrate knowledge of skills and content through a written assessment at the conclusion of the unit.

  5. Dance Fitness Unit • Learn and apply Cardio-respiratory, Muscular Strength and Endurance Concepts through participation. (NYS Learning Standard 1A and 1B) • Learn about international rhythms (currently • merenge, salsa, cha-cha, reggaeton, cumbia) • Learn about community opportunities for participation (NYS Learning Standard #3) • Collaborate with their classmates to come up with and share original dance variations. (NYS Learning Standard #2)
