Asia: A Mixed Bag.. • 7-8 % growth- India, China and the changing Dynamics.. • Uneven distribution of Change/growth: A challenge... • ILRI’s regional strategy: responsive to the rapidly changing Asia but also responsible for areas with less growth • Work on- - South-south collaborations (ICAR-CAAS) - Strengthening partnerships with NARs - Strategic site selections - Advocacy role

Private Sector • Large corporations, value chain partners, industry associations, private research organisations • Changing trend and emphasis on PPP Examples- Nestle, CII, CAS, ICAR, BMGF-PPP Program Nestle- China- 40,000 farmers suppliers per day Pakistan-2000 villages India- 100,000 farmers (2600 villages) 30,000 women Value Additions, micro finance, vet. services, trainings, medical facilities,

  13. Private Sector • Clear strategy on collaboration • Working with Industry Associations (rather than/or in addition to individual industry) • Do we have the capcity? The know how? • A private sector ‘cell’ at ILRI?

  14. Media.. An important ‘marketing tool’ to make our presence felt in the region and for advocacy • Need for augmenting engagement • Clear strategy/ guidelines • Support from Nairobi/Addis • Commitment from SA teams
