  4. Product Design What goes into designing a product?

  5. What is the Workflow? What do design teams do to come up with and design a product? How do they decide what to make? Where do they get their ideas from? What is the process used to create something from scratch?

  6. Concept to Product How is this achieved?

  7. The Steps: • Survey • Demographics • Image Board / Buzz Words • Ideation • Concepts • Rendering

  8. Survey Surveys are written to see what people want to buy. What features are important to the buyer? What are common likes / dislikes of potential buyers.

  9. Demographics Surveys are tallied and the results will lead the design team in a specific direction. Based on the results of the surveys the design team will come up with “Buzz Words” that describe the buyer and/or the product.

  10. Image Board The design team collects images that represent the buzz words and the data collected from the surveys. The images are laid out and glued on a board for future reference. In addition to images often times colors, textiles, and textures are added to the image board.

  11. Image Board

  12. Ideation Based on the image board artists begin to create multiple sketches to form a new idea. Often times the sketches are very loose at the beginning. The design team then meets and refines the idea. Further sketches may be required.

  13. Concepts Once an idea is selected artists will draw a few different concepts of the same idea. Shading and shadows are added.

  14. Rendering Eventually one of the concepts is selected by the design team and a finished rendering is created. This rendering is used for pitches, sales etc.
