  1. Chemistry Individual Project Work Ionic and Covalent Compounds Name: Natalie Choi F. 3A ( 5 )

  2. Basic Information

  3. Physical Properties

  4. Physical Properties

  5. Chemical Properties • Laboratory preparation: • Safety Glasses • Rubber Gloves • Chemical protective clothing Reason: Phosphorus Trifluoride is highly and attacks glass at high temperature. -Safety glasses and rubber gloves: protect from getting hurt by the compound.- Chemical protective clothing : prevent from toxic decomposition products.

  6. Chemical Properties Reactivity towards water: • Reacts slowly

  7. Chemical Properties Oxidizing or reducing : • PF3 is oxidized by oxidizing agents such as bromine or potassium permanganate. • PF3 forms a variety of metal complexes with metals in low oxidation states.

  8. Others Use: • Applications : Insecticides and flame retardants etc. • Industrial intermediates

  9. Others Potential hazards : Toxic Compressed gases Corrosive

  10. Others Any interesting or special characteristics of the compound etc : • With hot metals, phosphides and fluorides are formed. • Biological activity: Phosphorus trifluoride is similar to carbon monoxide in that it is a gas which strongly binds to iron in hemoglobin, preventing the blood from absorbing oxygen.
