  2. 1. You have already worked with… • regular -ER verbs. These verbs followed a specific pattern. Endings for this group of verbs were all the same. Once you memorized the endings, you could conjugate ANY verb ending in –ER.

  3. 2. A second group of verbs are those ending in… • –IR. These verbs will also follow a pattern and have the same endings.

  5. 4. Par exemple: • finir (to finish) 1st Je finis Nous finissons 2nd TufinisVousfinissez 3rd Il/Elle finitIls/Ellesfinissent On NOTE: All final consonants are silent!

  6. Ex. - • Les classes finissent à midi.

  7. 5. Les autresverbes: • A. choisir = to choose Ex. – Quellevestechoisis-tu?

  8. B. grossir = to gain weight; get fat • Ex. - Philippe grossitparcequ’il mange beaucoup. Nous grossissonsparceque nous mangeons les gâteaux.

  9. C. maigrir = to lose weight; get skinny • Ex. – Je maigrisparceque je ne mange pas beaucoup.

  10. D. réussir = to succeed • Ex. – Turéussisparcequetuestrès intelligent.

  11. E. réussir à un examen = to pass a test • Ex. – Nous réussissons à nosexamens.

  12. F. remplir = to fill • Ex. – Je remplis les blanks avec les réponses.

  13. G. rougir – to blush; turn red • Ex. – Pierre rougitquandelledit <<Je t’adore>>!

  14. H. bâtir = to build • Ex. – Ilsbâtissentunemaison en France.

  15. I. applaudir = to applaud • Ex. – Vousapplaudissez après le concert.

  16. J. punir = to punish • Ex. – Mes parents punissentmon frère.

  17. K. saisir = to seize; grasp • Ex. – Le petit garçonsaisit la balle.

  18. L. atterrir = to land • Ex. – L’avionatterrit à 17h00.
