Anything? • Forbids murdering another human being • Same response to “Judge not” (Matt. 7:1-5) • Impossible as absolute (choices) • People are not allowed to judge people • Correcting sin is commanded: 1 Tim. 5:20 • Withdrawing fellowship: 2 Thes. 3:6 • Hypocritical Judgment is condemned: Jn. 7:24

Exaggerated Restrictions • Thou shalt not judge anyone in anything • Thou shalt not kill anything • Thou shalt not kill anyone for any reason • Not in war, self-defense, protecting family, as an arm of the government doing justice… • Death Penalty: Gen. 9:6 • 17 Offenses in Old Law • What about the New Testament?

  3. Government Ordained • Rom. 13:1-6 • The minister of God (twice in verse 4) • Benefits the good, punishes evil doers • Provide tribute (so the government can keep functioning in its role) • Obey in fear of wrath and conscience sake • Sword (instrument of execution)

Government Ordained • Weakness and corruption in governments • Pilate executed the innocent: Jn. 19:4, 6 • Jesus supported government: Matt. 22:21 • Felix left Paul in prison: Acts 24:26-27 • Paul supported death penalty: Acts 25:9-12 • Any system of government is better than the chaos that exists without it Jd. 21:25

Government Ordained • Not personal revenge: Rom. 12:19 • Not violating command: Rom. 13:9 • Argument: A loving God would not allow any executions of people (Isa. 55:8) • Evil increases without penalty: Acts 5:1-10 • 14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

Action Deserves Punishment • Rom 6:23 For the wages(deserved) of sin(action) is death;(punishment) • As death penalty is removed from our world • The spiritual analogy becomes blurred • Fear no consequence for actions • Feel no remorse over expected judgment • but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
