  2. What do I believe? L.O: To consider our own beliefs about God and the different beliefs held by believers about God.

  3. What would you ask? If you could ask God one question, what would it be? • Fill in your GODDLE sheet with your questions!

  4. Do you believe in God? • Definitely no!!!! – This means you are an atheist! • Definitely yes!!!! – This means you are a theist!!! • Maybe, not sure…… - This means you are an agnostic!!

  5. What makes it true? • Who are these people? • What makes you believe they existed? • Where’s the evidence?

  6. Religious belief • You can’t see Gravity, so how do you know it is there? • Christians believe in God not because they can see him, but for what he has done in the world and in their own lives. They believe in the effect.

  7. Feedback – Your opinions! • Reasons to believe and reasons not!

  8. Mind mapping task • Fill in your mind-map as we work through the next slides. • Consider: Why do Christians believe in God? What do they believe?

  9. God is… • Loving Christians believe that God cares deeply for the creatures he has made. This is shown by the name used for God – Father. Jesus used the term constantly.

  10. God is… • Judge The bible and Qur’an is very clear that at the end of time everyone will be judged on their actions. God will judge whether they are to go to heaven or hell.

  11. God is… • Omniscient (all knowing) God knows the past, present and future. He knows what people are going to do before they do it!

  12. God is…. Omnipotent (all powerful) • Nothing is beyond the control of god. A miracle is an event that seems to go beyond the laws of science and there are many miracles in the holy books.

  13. God is…. • The supreme being There is no one greater than God. God is behind, beyond and above everything else.

  14. God is creator… • Muslims and Christians believe that God created everything – their creation stories are very similar. • They believe the universe God has created is perfect.

  15. Key Question • Write your name on a post-it and stick your post-it where your opinion lies! • In your books write a paragraph to justify your opinion! • From what you’ve heard give the counter argument! • God cannot be real as there is too much suffering in the world. Agree Disagree If God was all of these things then there would be no suffering in the world!

  16. Help to remember!!! • Make up a mnemonic to help you remember the different beliefs held about God. • For example: • 2 omnis and a supreme spirit creates loving judges!!
