  2. What is it? • Peripheral Artery Disease (P.A.D.) is a condition that DOUBLES your risk of having a heart attack or stroke. Along with making it 4 times more likely you will die of heart disease such as a heart attack or stroke. It happens when plaque builds up in arteries.

  3. Effect on Cardio System

  4. Symptoms • Many People with P.A.D. have no symptoms. • Pain • Cramps • Tired Feeling • Heaviness in legs, thighs, and buttocks when exercising.

  5. Diagnosis • Ankle-Brachial Index (A.B.I.) • This is based on comparing blood-pressure readings from your arms and ankles, and then calculating a A.B.I. number. (takes about 10mins) • A number below 0.9 means you have P.A.D. • Doctors recommend that if your over 50 you get tested.

  6. Treatment • Exercise Program • Healthier Diet • Quit Smoking • Maintain a Healthy Wait
