  1. R. Fiorito, A. Shkvarunets, H. Zhang Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics University of Maryland Presented (with apologies) Michelle Shinn (JLab) Beam/ Halo Diagnostics Goals: measure low intensity halo properties (distribution and emittance) in presence of high intensity but low emittance core Approach: use OTR or OSR and optical masking to separate out halo and core Two masking methods : I. Fixed (pinhole or stop); II. Adaptive (programable digital micromirror array)

  2. OTR and OSR Halo Imaging Systems installed at FEL Site of OTR and OSR diagnostics experiments

  3. I. Fixed Optical Mask (used with OTR station at FEL beam dump) OTR farfield imaging camera OTR Mask polarizer (farfield OTR gives localized divergence within pinhole or outside stop) beam imaging camera Camera 2 Electron beam beam ( pinhole or stop )

  4. II. Adaptive masking using digital micro-mirror array* micromirror *DLPTM 1100 TexasInstruments Inc. Rotation axis • micromirror size: 13.68 mm x 13.68 mm • No of elements: 1024 X 768 pixels • Array switching rate: 9600 patterns / sec • PC interface: USB 2.0 450

  5. DMA Imaging System Developed at UMD/ UMER 32 mm 32 mm 900 Frames 180 Frames

  6. Halo measurements at UMER (7 mA beam) using DMA Screen boundary

  7. Dynamic Range Test of DMD with intense UMER beam and circular mask 32mm Integration Frames: 20 275 1000 Integration Frames: 2000 3000

  8. Dynamic Range Measurement using Circular Mask and intense 23 mA beam: DR ~10(5) Reconstructed beam profile 32mm 256 0

  9. Optics for DMA Halo Experiment using OSR (Installed at FEL 8/2010 ) 500 mm Gallery optics: side view Gallery optics: top view Vault Optics: side view 24o FEL Vault ceiling Camera 5 m PVC tube 1219 mm DMA OSR Port (2F06) 1000 mm 457 mm
