Why Have A Planning and Monitoring Process? • Enables more precise (structured) communications within company • Develops executive staff synergy by applying cross functional resources to accomplish objectives,strategies, tactics • Set intermediate milestones (annual and quarterly objectives) that allow measurement of progress against the strategic and annual plans • Provides central point of focus for the entire organization • Focus of optimization for the larger team • Basis for determining then prioritizing individual activity • Consistent monitoring tool CONFIDENTIAL

Definitions • Goal/Objective: Clear and motivating statement of what is to be accomplished; can be long term (3-5 years), annual, quarterly • Annual Milestones: Major accomplishments required to achieve the long term objectives set forth in the strategic plan • AMB: As Measured By – quantitative or at least deterministic metric (This is where the POWER is!) • Owner: Person who is responsible to team for driving accomplishment • ‘Necessary and sufficient’: Do what has to be done first; perfection is the long term goal, but in early stage companies, often a ‘necessary and sufficient’ approach is best CONFIDENTIAL
