  5. Why Legal Immigrants? Under the International Labor Standard prescribed by International Labor Organization (ILO), Immigrants should have same rights, access to the information, and protection regardless of their nationality. COALITION FOR THE PROTECTION OF LEGAL IMMIGRANT’S WORK RIGHTS

  6. Objective #1 Reduce the number of immigrant workers underpaid • FLSA(Fair Labor Standard Act) • No inspection for abusive employers • Limited multi-lingual resource • EEOC(Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) • Insufficient penalty against unlawful discrimination COALITION FOR THE PROTECTION OF LEGAL IMMIGRANT’S WORK RIGHTS

Objective #2 Reduce the frequency of work-related injuries • Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) • Immigrants’, especially Hispanic’s higher death/injury rate • Limited access to safety equipment • Limited funding source for training COALITION FOR THE PROTECTION OF LEGAL IMMIGRANT’S WORK RIGHTS

Objective #3 Increase funding for non-profits educating potential targets of sexual harassment • Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices • Weak community support for immigrant women • Insufficient policy and legislation against sexual harassment COALITION FOR THE PROTECTION OF LEGAL IMMIGRANT’S WORK RIGHTS

Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Tasks within CPLIWR • Urge OSHA to approve the Employer Payment for Personal Protection Equipment standard • Urge OSHA to increase funding of the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program for non-profits educating workers on their safety and rights. New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) Mission- Community Education The NYIC develops educational materials in as many as twelve languages on important issues such as new developments in immigration law, the citizenship process, school registration, health care access, and voting rights. New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE) Mission To challenge the access gap between recent immigrant communities and government, seeking systemic solutions to improving immigrants’ voting rights, full language access, health care, and workplace protections under local, state and federal laws. Only legal specialists write the letter for stricter penalty against unlawful discrimination prescribed in The INA and Title VII of the Civil Right Act of 1964 COALITION FOR THE PROTECTION OF LEGAL IMMIGRANT’S WORK RIGHTS
