Lucas2:16 - 21 16 En aquel tiempo, los pastores fueron a toda prisa hacia Belén y encontraron a María, a José y al niño, recostado en el pesebre. 17 Después de verlo, contaron lo que se les había dicho de aquel niño, 18 y cuantos los oían quedaban maravillados. 19 María, por su parte, guardaba todas estas cosas y las meditaba en su corazón.

  2. 20 Los pastores se volvieron a sus campos, alabando y glorificando a Dios por todo cuanto habían visto y oído, según lo que se les había anunciado. 21 Cumplidos los ocho días, circuncidaron al niño y le pusieron el nombre de Jesús, aquel mismo que había dicho el ángel, antes de que el niño fuera concebido. Luke 2:16 - 21 16 So the Shepherds went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. 17 When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. 18 All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. 19 And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.

  5. Reflections on Luke 2:16 - 21 Reflexiones en Lucas 2:16 - 21 by Fr. Sam Rosales, S.J. Jan. 1, 2012 Happy New Year! Today is the first day of the year and the Feast of Holy Mary, Mother of God. I want to share a few reflections on the Mother of God, the readings of the Mass of the day, and a few thoughts on the notion of Time.

  6. ¡Feliz Año Nuevo! Hoy es el primer día del año y la Fiesta de Santa Maria, Madre de Dios. Quiero compartir unas cuantas reflexiones acerca de la Madre de Dios, las lecturas de la Misa, y unos cuantas pensamientos acerca la idea del Tiempo.

  7. In the Gospel of Luke it is Saint Elizabeth who first calls Our Lady Mother of God. When Our Lady visited her, “Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted me, that the Mother of my Lord should come to me?” (Luke 2:41-42).

En el Evangelio de San Lucas es Santa Isabel que primero llama a Nuestra Señora la Madre de Dios, cuando Nuestra Señora la visita. “Cuando Isabel oyó la salutación de Maria, la criatura salto en su vientre; e Isabel fue llena del Espíritu Santo, y exclamó a gran voz, y dijo: Bendita tu entre las mujeres, y bendito el fruto de tu vientre. ¿Por qué se me concede esto a mí, que la Madre de mi Señor venga a mí?”(Lucas 2:41-42).

  9. The Catholic Church Fathers thought about this for many years. Finally in the year 431, at the Third Ecumenical Council at Ephesus, St. Cyril of Alexandria confessed: “The Word, uniting to himself in his person the flesh animated by a rational soul, became man.” Christ’s humanity has no other subject than the divine person of the Son of God, who assumed it and made it his own, from his conception. For this reason, Mary truly became the Mother of God by the human conception of the Son of God in her womb (So says the Catholic Catechism of the Church #466).

  11. We congratulate Our Lady and we honor her as the Mother of God. Like Saint Elizabeth, let us humble ourselves and honor her for having received such a singular favor. Our Lady is the glory of the human race. She is very special. It is a humbling thought that Our Lord also gave her to us as our Mother (John 19:27). We are unworthy. When we pray the Rosary, and repeat the words of St. Elizabeth, it is now our turn to ask: “Why is it that it has been granted to me, that the Mother of Our Lord come to me?”

  12. Felicitamos a Nuestra Señora y le damos honor como la Madre de Dios. Igual que Santa Isabel, vamos a humillarnos y darle la honora que merece por razón de recibir ese favor singular. Nuestra Señora es la gloria de la raza humana. Ella es muy especial. Ese pensamiento pide de nosotros la humildad, porque Nuestro Señor también nos la dio como nuestra Madre (Juan 19:27). Somos indignos. Cuando rezamos el Rosario, repetimos las palabras de Santa Isabel. Ahora nos toca a nosotros preguntar: “¿Por qué se me ha concedido a mí, que la Madre de mi Señor venga a mí?”

  13. The Gospel for today tells us that as the good news of Jesus Christ came to Our Lady, she went in haste to the hill country to visit her cousin Elizabeth (Luke 1:39). She did not hesitate. She did not put it off for another day. She responded immediately to God’s Word. Likewise, when the good news reached the shepherds, they responded immediately (Luke 2:16). They were deeply moved, and went to Bethlehem to see what they could see.

  14. El Evangelio de hoy nos dice que cuando las buenas nuevas de Jesucristo vinieron a Nuestra Señora, ella fue de prisa a la montaña, a visitar a su prima Isabel (Lucas 1:39). No se detuvo. No lo dejo para otro día. Respondió inmediatamente a la Palabra de Dios. Igualmente, cuando las buenas nuevas llegaron a los pastores, respondieron inmediatamente (Lucas 2:16). Se conmovieron profundamente, y fueron a Belén a ver lo que podían ver.

  15. In the same way St. Joseph responded immediately to God’s call (Matthew 2:13-15). An Angel told him in a dream “Rise, take the child and his Mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there till I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him”. And he arose and took the child and his mother by night, and departed to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod.” We also need to respond to God’s call immediately, when he asks us to do something. No ifs, buts, or maybes. Right?

  16. También vemos que San José, respondió inmediatamente a la llamada de Dios (Mateo 2:13-15). Un Ángel le dijo en un sueno, “Levántate, y toma al niño y a su Madre,y huye a Egipto,y permanece allá hasta que yo te diga; porque acontecerá que Herodes buscara al niño para matarlo. Y él, despertando, tomó de noche al niño y a su madre, y se fue a Egipto, y estuvo allá hasta la muerte de Herodes.” Nosotros también necesitamos responder a la llamada de Dios inmediatamente, cuando Él nos pide hacer algo. No hay que andar poniendo condiciones, protestas, o “peros”. ¿Verdad?

  17. On New Year’s Day, we are acutely aware that time is passing us by very quickly. If you have been doing God’s will, living life in a way that is pleasing to God, you will feel his peace and his love, and gratitude for the many years he has given you to love and serve him. If you have not been doing God’s will, living the good life, you will experience a sense of regret. This is a good time to start doing God’s will. Without the Lord, we can do nothing, but with the Lord we can do all the good things he wants us to do.

  18. En el Día del Año Nuevo, estamos muy conscientes que el tiempo nos pasa muy rápidamente. Si has estado haciendo la voluntad de Dios, viviendo una vida que complace a Dios, sentirás su paz y su amor, y la gratitud por los muchos años que Él te ha dado para amarlo y servirlo. Si no has estado haciendo la voluntad de Dios, sentirás tristeza de remordimiento. Hoy es buen tiempo para comenzar a hacer la voluntad de Dios. Sin el Señor, nada se puede. Pero con el Señor, todo lo bueno que Él nos pide hacer es posible.

  19. Once you decide that you will do God’s will no matter what, the words of St. Paul will apply: “I am sure that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion” (Philippians 1:6). From here on out, let God be God. Join Our Lady who said: “Be it done unto me, according to your word ! ” (Luke 1:38). It is the best way to honor Our Lady on her Feast Day as Mother of God.

Una vez que te decides hacer la voluntad de Dios pase lo que pase, las palabras de San Pablo aplican: “Estoy seguro de que Dios, que comenzó a hacer su buena obra en ustedes, la irá llevando a buen fin hasta el día en que Jesucristo regrese” (Filipenses 1:6). De hoy en adelante, deja a Dios que sea Dios. Únete a Nuestra Señora que dijo: “¡Hágase en mi según tu palabra!” (Lucas 1:39). Este es el mejor modo de darle honra a Nuestra Señora en el Día de su Fiesta como Madre de Dios.
