  2. Nature of the course • A compulsory course • 统设课 • 4 credits • Learned within one semester

  3. Teaching Aim • To deepen students’ understanding of the practical grammar items; • To help students master the important and difficult grammar items; • To enable students to combine grammar knowledge with language practice, applying grammar to listening, speaking, reading, writing & translating effectively.

  4. Teaching Contents There are 30 units in all, including 3 revision units (Units10, 20 & 30). Main grammar items involved are: • Word-Classes/Parts of Speech (Units1, 4-9, 21) • Parts of Sentences, Word Order & Types of Sentences (Units2-3) • Tenses (Units11-16) • Non-Finite Verbs (Units17-19) • Passive Voice (Unit 22) • Adverbial, Attributive & Noun Clauses (Units23-26) • Direct & Indirect Speech (Unit27) • Subjunctive Mood (Unit28) • Agreement between S & V (Unit29)

  5. Assessment 1. Continuous Assessment: 30%, including 1) Written assignments (finish all the exercises in the Assignment Book); 2) Involvement in tutorials, group discussions and online learning activities. 2. Final Exam: 70%, consisting of five parts: • Part I: Grammar in Reading (10×2 points) • Part II: Grammar in Reading (5×4 points) • Part III: Cloze (5×4 points) • Part IV: Error Correction (10×2 points) • Part V: Grammar in Writing (10×2 points)
