  2. Reasons for exam • Swelling of soft tissue structures • Epiglotitis, Tonsilits, etc • CROUP in infants

  3. ST Neck • Similar to AP & Lat CSP • Some change in techinque and central ray • To visualize nasopharygeal and laryngeal stuctures • Done in Inspiration

  4. AP ST NECK • AP C/R is ┴ at laryngeal prominence (adams apple) • Align chin with back of head

  5. TECHNIQUE CHANGES • LOWER KVP AND/OR MAS • SEE SOFT TISSUE NOT SPINE • C.SP = 70 KVP, 20 MAS, 72 “ • ST Neck = 65 kvp 15 mas 72”

  6. Lateral ST neck Ch. 15 – Merrills guidelines: • 1” below EAM for nasopharynx • At mandible angle for oropharynx • At adam’s apple for larynx AT THE CLINICAL: • (Should have top of the cassette – above the ear to include nasopharynx)
