  5. Purpose of the Semi • Serve as the IACUC’s eyes and ears • Collect evidence of good performance! • Educate • Develop communication pathways

  6. What standards are used? • National leg. (9 CFR) • PHS Assurance • Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animal • “Ag Guide” • AVMA Panel on Euthanasia • EEC 86/609 / CoE Convention • CCAC

Performing Program Review • How we do our job - Ask: • Community members if they can describe to you the process used for ‘X’ • Care staff: how do you report concerns • PI staff how they change experiments • IACUC if they are receiving the information required for them to make an informed decision

  8. Performing Program Review • How we do our job - Look at: • IACUC minutes for completeness • Protocols and practices expectations • Training records / practices adequacy • Care records to confirm care • Sanitation records confirm expectations

  10. Performing Facility Review • How we do our job - Ask: • Facility Manager about practices • Care staff about practices • Research staff about practices • Maintenance staff about practices
