  2. BRIEF Jane is a 24 year old single mother who has a three year old daughter. She receives income support and is finding it hard to manage on benefit. She was recently given a second-hand cream leather suite that is in very good condition. Her favourite colour is blue, ‘all shades of blue’. Her priority is to decorate her living room and she would like a modern/contemporary but ‘classy’ and calm atmosphere in the room. As a mother of a three year old, she like to spend as much time as possible with her daughter and would like the room to be as easy to keep clean as possible….Minimalist! Jane would like some modern art work for her living room walls, new table lamp and ceiling light shades, cushion covers for her suite and blinds for her windows.

  3. MATERIALS • Fabrics • Paints • Paper lampshades • Canvas • Mirrors • Mosaic Tiles • Brushes etc

  4. BRAIN STORM In a brain storming session we decided on fabrics and styles with consideration to the brief. We used this as a basis for the design of other accessories such as lampshades, canvases and mirrors.

  5. MOOD BOARDS We create a mood board to gather ideas about colours, styles, fabrics, materials, themes and accessories. This helps to give a clear idea for the intentions of a project.

  6. Art Work Using simple shapes such as the stripes and circles, and sticking to requirements of the brief, we created effective abstract paintings on canvas for the living room wall.

  7. Decorative Mirrors We used some fabric to cover the chunky frame of the mirror which were then mounted on to fabric covered panels. We also used some mosaic tiles as an alternative design Solution.

  8. Fabrics We used different fabrics to make some scatter cushions with velcro backings. We then made a tab top blind and a simple decorative panel with complimenting colours

  9. Decorative Lampshades We applied paint Effects to paper lampshades, keeping to the general colour theme and abstract Design.
