  7. WHAT GEL TIME ? • GEL TIME IS THE TIME IT TAKES RESIN TO REACH A PASTE, OR SEMISOLID STATE. • ( THIS USUALLY TAKES APPROXIMATELY 5 - 30 SECONDS ) • GEL TIME = SPIN TIME + HOLD TIME

  8. WHAT CURE TIME ? • CURE TIME IS THE TIME IT TAKES RESIN TO REACH ABOUT 90 - 95 % OF ITS FINAL STRENGTH ( THIS USUALLY TAKES APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES )

  11. WHAT IS ANCHORAGE ? ANCHORAGE MEANS HOW WELL A BOLT IS ANCHORED IN THE ROOF. WE WANT THE ANCHORAGE ZONE OF THE BOLT TO BE GREATER THAN THE ULTIMATE STRENGTH OF THE BOLT. ( DURING A PULL TEST, WE WANT TO BREAK THE BOLT INSTEAD OF PULLING IT OUT OF THE MINE ROOF )

WHAT IS RESIN SHOW ?( ON FULLY GROUTED RESIN BOLTS) • RESIN SHOW IS WHEN A SMALL AMOUNT OF EXCESS RESIN APPEARS BETWEEN THE BOLT HEAD AND PLATE. • RESIN SHOW IS CAUSED, BECAUSE THERE IS APPROXIMATELY 6% MORE RESIN BY VOLUME THAN THE VOLUME OF THE ANNULUS AROUND THE BOLT. • A LACK OF RESIN SHOW CAN MEAN A BAD INSTALLATION

  14. COMMON MISTAKES WHEN INSTALLING RESIN BOLTS • DRILL HOLE TOO DEEP • DRILL HOLE TOO LARGE IN DIA. • SPINNING BOLT TOO LONG. • RESPINNING BOLT AFTER HOLD TIME. • BOLT SPACING NOT ACCORDING TO ROOF CONTROL PLAN. • OVER TORQUING BOLT DURING INSTALLATION.

  15. STORAGE OF RESIN • KEEP IN A COOL, DRY PLACE. • AVOID DOUBLE STACKING. • AFFECTED BY HIGH STORAGE TEMPERATURE. • UNAFFECTED BY FREEZING.

  16. SHELF LIFE • QC PRODUCTS 6 MONTHS • ALL OTHERS 1 YEAR • SHELF LIFE CAN BE EXTENDED UP TO TWO MONTHS, BUT ONLY BY THE RESIN MANUFACTOR AFTER TESTS HAVE BEEN PREFORMED.
