II. Kingdom Protista. All are eukaryotic .  All have cells with nuclei.  All live in moist environments. Can be unicellular or multicellular .  Can be microscopic or over 100 meters (300 feet) long.  Some are heterotrophs , while others are autotrophs.

  1. II. Kingdom Protista All are eukaryotic.  All have cells with nuclei.  All live in moist environments. Can be unicellular or multicellular.  Can be microscopic or over 100 meters (300 feet) long.  Some are heterotrophs, while others are autotrophs.

  2. Protista that are classified to: Animal-like protista called protozoa Plant-like protista called True-algae

  3. Plant like Protista (True-algae) • Photosynthetic; their nutrition is plant-like. • Almost all of them have chlorophyll a, most have chlorophyll c, but only a few have chlorophyll b. • They also have a variety of carotenoids and other pigments

  4. The most common are: • Chlorophyta • Euglenophyta • Bacillariophyta (diatoms) • Phaeophyta • Rhodophyta.

  5. Chlorophyta (Green algae) • chlorophyll main pigment. • Most live in fresh water, although some marine species exist. • Cell walls are composed of cellulose. • Green algae can be: unicellular colonial multicellular e.g. ChlamydomonasVolvoxSpirogyra
