Even in cases where the amount of Ethernet traffic justifies higher data speed for access links, simple protocol conversion is still the most cost effective route for transmitting Ethernet traffic transparently point-to-point over E1/SDH network.     22. Ethernet over SDH STM-1 SDH networks was originally designed to transport voice and TDM traffic and not inherently suited for the Ethernet traffic.
