    1. C15 - Parts of a Boat and Oar This lesson is to introduce boats to you, so that when you get to the real thing its not all strange to you! You won’t remember all the names but do try and learn the main parts.     2. Introduce the cadets to the MOD (N) issued ‘pulling’ craft, the Admiralty Sea Cadet. Introduce boat part names - just the basics! Make up a bag of labels with names on - see what they know.     3. Parts of an Oar THE CRUTCH IS SECURED IN THE BOAT WITH A LANYARD TO PREVENT IT BEING LOST OVERBOARD. THE LEATHER PROTECTS THE WOODEN OAR IN THE METAL CRUTCH WHEN ROWING THESE DAYS THE COPPER BANDS ARE USUALLY PLASTIC TAPE - DESIGNED TO STOP THE BLADE SPLITTING - NOT NEEDED AS MUCH THESE DAYS AS WOOD GLUES ARE MUCH STRONGER THAN BEFORETHE CRUTCH IS SECURED IN THE BOAT WITH A LANYARD TO PREVENT IT BEING LOST OVERBOARD.
