If the Jewels could speak to us right now they would insist that we enlist the collective Brotherhood and fight to save Black men and boys, for when we save our Brothers, we save ourselves. ” • Brother Darryl A.   2. On this 101st Anniversary, I salute you the men of distinction who provide servant leadership in communities around the world. Brother Darryl A. Peal and The Alpha Inheritance Team extends fraternal love and admiration to all the Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha and on this our Founders Day we challenge each of you to follow the lead of the Brothers of the New Jersey district as they rededicate themselves to service to all mankind The Next 100 year challenge: A rededication to community service That was the theme of the New Jersey Association of Alpha Phi Alpha Chapters state-wide Founders Day Celebration on Saturday December 1, where Brother Darryl A. Peal had the honor of serving as the keynote speaker in Gibbs Hall at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.  Brother Peal’s message, was inspired by the words of Past General President Frank Stanley, who in 1956 stated that “The very survival of Alpha Phi Alpha as a strong serviceable organization depends upon the success or failure with which we, its members give effective leadership to the issues of the times.” Brother Peal reminded everyone in the room that the most pervasive social and cultural issues of this time is the need to address the many challenges that continue to adversely impact the health, employment, education, social, and cultural development of African American men and boys.

  3. The NJAAPAC Founders Day was hosted by District Director Brother James E. Holmes and the Zeta Epsilon Lambda Chapter whose chapter President is the esteemed Brother Vernon Anthony. The celebration included an inspiring presentation of the Occasion by Brother Carlise Parker, an update on the memorial by Brother Zachery Chester, and magical Musical selections from Brother Frederick King on trumpet and talented vocalist Tia Boynton. However, the highlight of the chapter presentations was the oration of the poem House of Alpha presented by Brother Joseph Feast, Jr. a seasoned 40+ year Brother who delivered the speech from memory in the spirit of Paul Robeson. His presentation brought Brothers and guest to their feet with thunderous applause! The mood had been set for Brother Peal who came to microphone and delivered the powerful message of the day. Many heartfelt thanks are extended to Brother Melv in L. Etienne who made sure Brother Peal was accommodated princely and to the entire brotherhood of the District of New Jersey.

Brother Fred King I can clearly see that the spirit of the Jewels lives on and provides a solid base for establishing and maintaining the highest possible standards of dignity and self-respect that all of us can emulate.  - Brother John Hope Franklin, 89th Anniversary Convention, Orlando Florida (1995) The words of John Hope Franklin ring true for all of us as we celebrate the founding of our beloved Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The spirit of the Jewels lives in all of the Alpha men who hold high the name and proudly wear the colors Black and Old Gold! We are standing on the shoulders of cultural, political and social giants and we have inherited an organization that has a history of community impact, political involvement and love for all mankind! We must always remember that to whom much is given, much is required. We live a privileged life compared to the early experiences of our Jewels while they were pursing degrees at Cornell Past General President Raymond W. Cannon, spoke of the Jewels campus experience at the Golden Anniversary Convention and he stated,  “I can see the seven founders, our Jewels on the campus of Cornell University scurrying back and forthbetween their classrooms, up and down the halls in their long coats, billowy pin-striped trousers, buttoned shoes, and flat hats with the ribbon of the college colors for a hat band. All of these students except one was obligated to work his way through college. Jobs were hard to find and some of our founders received for their compensation for one month as much as some of our undergraduates today receive in one day.”

  5. As we celebrate the lives of our beloved Jewels we must also celebrate their struggle and remember that we have inherited more then a mere organization. Alpha Phi Alpha is a way of life, steeped in servant leadership, spirituality and brotherhood. We must guard it, keep it safe and build on its foundation! It is our Alpha Inheritance.
