Global Bridges Objectives • Build a network • Create opportunities to share treatment and advocacy expertise among network members within and across regions • Provide training • State-of-the-art, evidence-based training in tobacco dependence treatment and advocacy • Article 14 implementation • Facilitate the implementation of FCTC Article 14 in every nation • Sustain the mission • Ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the initiative

Clinton Global Initiative • Created in 2005 by President Bill Clinton “to help turn good intentions into real actions and results.” • Convenes over 1,000 global leaders to devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems • CGI members make commitments to improve the lives of people across the globe

GB Accomplishments Summary • Since April 2011, Regional Partners have trained over 1575 HCPs from 53countries • Over 18000 person-hours of training, reaching thousands of patients • Presented at national, regional, and global meetings with combined attendance of over 22,000 • www.globalbridges.orglaunched in 6 languages • 724 members have joined via website • Active collaborations with ATTUD, treatobacco.net, Global Nurses Network, American Academy of Pediatrics, Global Smokefree Partnership, Hong Kong Dept of Health, INWAT, American Association of Anesthesiologists, and others

Hong Kong/China • Mayo Clinic has worked with Hong Kong Dept of Health and Hospital Authority to develop and host TTS training series • Co-branded curriculum in English and Mandarin • Support from Hong Kong Academy of Medicine – 15 colleges • HK DoH recently became WHO Collaborating center • Over 100 Healthcare professionals trained to date • Positions GB to expand into mainland China • Seeking dedicated regional partner and funding

Global Bridges in Europe • National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training • In 2012, conducted situation analysis of 52 countries, with special attention to Eastern Europe • Expert Roundtable participation from Czech Republic, Russia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Portugal, Spain • Conclusion: further development of regional network is crucially important • 2013 program focus on expanding and engaging network, largely through website and selected conferences • Also offering treatment support for smoking physicians

GB/CAMH Distance Learning • Goal: provide accredited training on tobacco dependence treatment through a series of innovative distance-learning modules • Target Audience: Healthcare professionals interested in treating tobacco dependence Regional focus- Middle East & Latin America • Language focus- Spanish and Arabic • Specialty focus

Distance Learning Objectives • Describe important adverse health consequences of tobacco use • Describe the neurobiology of tobacco dependence • Recognize the importance of integrating tobacco dependence treatment into clinical practice • Apply key systems-level modifications to support screening and assessment for all tobacco users • Implement basic, brief behavioral and motivational interventions for tobacco dependence • Access additional learning resources on tobacco dependence treatment
