  8. POST INVESTIGATIVE MONITORING

  9. STATION AUDITS • In pursuance to our Project Compliance Report conducted during the 2007/ 08 financial year 66 Stations out of 109 Stations were audited to monitor their compliance with the Domestic Violence Act. • These were stations which were found to be below par in as far as compliance is concerned. • The audit was therefore meant to check whether they had rectified the shortcomings which were identified in the Project Compliance Report. • Our findings were that very little appeared to have been done by the stations concerned to rectify the mistakes. • A large number of personnel, especially in the Community Service Centre (CSC) are not conversant with the Act.

  10. DVA AUDIT • SAPS 508,508 a & b • Occurrence Book • Interview • Copies of DVA • Copies of National Instructions on DVA • List of contact details – support for victim • Victim centre • Station order on DVA

  11. CHALLENGES • Non compliance by SAPS members iro DVA • Implementation of ICD recommendations iro negative discipline matters. RECOMMENDATIONS • Appointment of DVA Officers at Station level • Progress monthly reports by SAPS iro negative discipline & DVA matters

  12. FILLING OF VACANCIES • We experienced a staff turn over of ten people and that had a negative impact in our budget as well as operations. • All vacant posts were filled within a month by promotion of four internal candidates. • We appointed seven interns whom two were later permanently appointed by the department and five by other government departments.

  13. ESTABLISHMENT OF SATELLITE OFFICES • A Satellite Office has been established at the Eastern Free State (Bethlehem) on 01 April 2008 and to date it still accommodated temporarily by SAPS. • The Office started operations on 01 May 2008 with three staff members. • There is still a need for a Satellite Office at the Northern Free State (Kroonstad) as we experienced high complaints intake from that side. • Presently one investigator is dealing with the Northern Free State matters.
