Activity Rules of code and conduct

  • You should know about written rules in various activities which the referee or umpire follows.

  • You should also be aware of unwritten rules in activities such as etiquette.

  • You should be able to recognise shape and its importance, for example netball positions or basketball man to man and zone defence.

  • You should be able to name compulsory safety equipment such as leg pads in cricket and also only recommended safety equipment such as mouth guards in rugby.

  • You should be able to describe ways in which an activity or the equipment can be changed in order to make it safer for beginners or young people.

  • You should be able to explain the ways in which equipment can be adapted. i.e. time, equipment, players, area, scoring.

  • You should be able to explain why equipment often has to be changed or adapted.
