The “I” in IB:INTERNATIONAL • The IB Diploma is currently offered by 1,598 schools in 125 countries; National and International; Public and Private, of which • 555 are High Schools in the USA (more than any other country in the world), and • 117 are High Schools in Canada (more than any other country in the world except the USA)

  3. The “B” and “D” in IB DP =BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA • The world’s most widely recognized pre-university credential accepted as sufficient preparation for entrance into college or university

  4. The “P” in IB DP:PROGRAM • An integrated , holistic program of interconnected, rigorous courses and other requirements • Courses in Grades 11 and 12: a balanced selection from six IB subject groups culminating in international exams sent away for grading • Additional requirements include: Extended (Research-Based) Essay; Creativity/Activity/ Service; and the Theory of Knowledge course (designed to connect all the other courses)

What Type of Student Chooses the IB Diploma Programme? • Students who desire and are excited by challenges • Students who value doing high quality work • Students who are self-motivated • Students who thrive on the learning process …not necessarily on getting “the right answer” • Students who have a passion for and love of learning

Current IB DP Courses at MNHS • Group 1 - Language A1 (English) • Group 2 - Language B (French, German, Spanish, Latin) • Group 3 - Individuals and Society (History of Americas/ 20th Century World History Topics, and Psychology) • Group 4 - Experimental Sciences - (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) • Group 5 - Mathematics - (Math Studies, Standard Level Mathematics, and Higher Level Mathematics) • Group 6 – Arts/Electives - (Art, Music, Theater, or a second subject from Group 2, 3, or 4)

IB Diploma Requirements • Take 3 or 4 Higher Level and 3 or 2 Standard Level Courses (so 3 HL + 3 SL or 4 HL + 2 SL) • One Course (HL or SL) From Each Subject Group • Higher Level = 240 Instructional Hours Over Two Years: Exams Taken at End of Senior Year • Standard Level = 150 Instructional Hours in one year: Exams Taken at end of Junior or Senior Year • Complete all Connecting Elements (EE, ToK, and CAS)

  9. The I B DP uses multiple types of ASSESSMENT to measure student achievement in all its courses. The underlying philosophy is to allow students to make choices (History example), and to give them an opportunity to demonstrate what they know, rather than find out what they don't know.

IB DP Assessment • Criterion-Referenced: Defined Levels of Achievement + • External: 3,500+ Examiners Worldwide + • Internal: Format Varies From Subject to Subject + • Consistency and Comparability Guaranteed: ALL teachers’ grades are sampled for accuracy at 3 levels = A TRUE GLOBAL STANDARD, performing the same function in secondary education as the ISO 9001 QM Certification in Manufacturing, or IFRS/US GAAP Compliance in Accounting
