  1. The Breadwinner The Breadwinner is a story about a girl who becomes the sole provider for her mother and siblings. The story takes place in the war torn country of Afghanistan. The Taliban were an extreme group who made many rules against women, education, and the freedom of the people in Afghanistan.

  2. Parvana is an incredibly brave character who overcomes many horrific atrocities to take care of the needs of the friends she meets and develop.

  3. Parvana is the main character of the story. She had tp cover her face in because she is a girl. Women and girl’s are not allowed to show their faces in Afghanistan. They are also unable to go into stores, or attend school, and cannot go out with being accompanied by a man.

  4. The Taliban forced women to wear burkas. Women were not allowed to show any skin in public.

  5. Women were not allowed to receive education and they required their husband or father’s permission to be out in public. Most women were forced to stay inside their homes.

  6. The Breadwinner is the first book of a trilogy. It centers around a young girl named Parvana. Parvana was forced to change her identity. She had to become a boy to protect and feed her family.

  7. Parvana takes on a journey through hardship, pain, and the momentous struggle just to survive.
