  2. Welcome to First Grade! • I will introduce you to the First grade and to our classroom. • If you have any questions after viewing, please feel free to ask me.

  3. All About Mrs. Cordingly • My background • I grew up in Minnesota on a dairy farm. I have seven brothers and two sisters. • I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Ed. and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Literacy from Leslie College in Cambridge, Mass. My experience: • I’ve taught transitional first graders, second grade and first grade. • I have taught fifth through twelfth grade church school. • I have been a 4-H leader for 14 years.

  4. My Family Kent is my husband. We have three children, Nick, Jessica and Mathew. Nick lives in Las Vegas and works in retail, Jessica is a high school P.E. Teacher in southern California and Mathew trains horses here in Thermopolis. We have another friend and her name is Robin. She is a vet tech.

  5. My Goals • To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to second grade. • To provide a supportive, safe and fun classroom environment. • To help you be the best you can be.

  6. Class Subjects What we will be working on in First Grade • Reading, writing, listening and speaking • Math • Social Studies • Science • Handwriting

  7. Reading • We will be using the Open Court Reading Program. • We will have reading homework almost every night.

  8. Writing • We will be learning how to write words, sentences and stories • We will work with Handwriting Without Tears.

  9. Math • How numbers work • Graphing • Addition and Subtraction • Shapes • Measuring

  10. Science • Seasons • Life cycles • Solids & Liquids • Weather

  11. Social Studies • Columbus • Thanksgiving • Presidents Day • Martin Luther King, Jr. • Good Citizenship

  12. Specials • P.E. • Computer Class • Writing • Music • Art

  13. Classroom Community Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules: • to keep us safe, • so we can learn • so we can be good citizens .

  14. Our class rules are: • Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself. • Follow directions. • Be kind and respectful.

  15. Homework • We have reading homework. • Read you homework and have someone sign your homework envelope. • Always bring your homework back to school the next day, even if you do not have time to read it at home. Grandma Nina will help you practice it when you get to school.

  16. Attendance • Class starts at 8:00. We will begin reading class no later than 8:10. It is very important for kids to be in school every day unless they are ill. We work hard EVERY day.
