  1. Applying for MA Licensure Using ELAR (Educator Licensure and Recruitment)

  2. Getting Started • Go to MA Dept. of Education- Educator Licensure. http://www.doe.mass.edu/educators/e_license.html • Click “Online Tools” above the ELAR logo.

  3. Creating Your Profile • Click “Create ELAR Profile”

  4. Creating Your Profile cont’d • Complete the required information and click the “submit” button in the lower left. Note: International students need to send SSN/TIN information to us so we may complete the online endorsement step. • You will be taken to a second screen where they will ask for the rest of your address, phone, email, etc. and create your username/password. Note: Due to the display of personal information a screenshot of this step was not taken.

  5. Adding Licenses • From the pull-down menus, select “Academic: Teacher” as your Field, “Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General” as the subject, “All Levels” as the Level, and “Initial” as Type. • Click “add..” and when you have finished entering all licenses you wish to apply for and click “next” to proceed.

  6. Choosing Your Path • Path 1 is the undergraduate (Bachelor’s degree) program selection. This is what you are doing at Berklee. • Paths 2-5 are Master’s degree (and above) selections. These do not apply to you.

  7. DOE Recommendations • The DOE may make some recommendations for additional licenses. They currently have critical needs/shortages in several areas, such as, Special Education, Mathematics, and Science. • Click “next” to proceed.

  8. Signing the Affidavit • Read each statement carefully and check the box to the left if it is true. • If the statement is not true, use the explanation text box to provide the details of your situation. • Click the “sign” button.

  9. Affidavit Signed • You will receive a pop-up confirmation. • Click “OK” to proceed.

  10. Application Confirmation • Once you have completed the Affidavit section, you will be asked to confirm your application. • Click “sign” to confirm your application.

  11. Application Signed • You will receive a pop-up confirmation. • Click “OK” to be taken to Step 5- Enter Payment.

  12. Payment • Select your preferred payment method and pay the amount due. • Request your official transcript from the Registrar’s Office using the MUED Transcript Request Form found on our departmental web site. http://www.berklee.net/me/licensure.html

  13. Important Notes • Confirm with the Registrar’s Office that you have been moved to graduated status. You may owe the College money (you may have a refund) or a grade change/CBX request may still be pending. • Your transcript must indicate that you have received a Bachelor of Music degree and the date of graduation (May, August, or December) and have Dr. Adderley’s stamp/signature or else your application will be delayed. • If you have any problems with your ELAR profile or make a mistake in your application, contact the Licensure Call Center at (781) 338-6600.
