  2. Daily Learning Objective The Northley Staff will be able to (SWBAT) identify a comprehensive Daily Learning Objective by Completing a PowerPoint handout.

The Daily Learning Objective… • Is the first step in guiding a teacher in lesson planning • Should match the Agenda, Activities and Strategies used in the lesson • Focuses the student and teacher on the task at hand *Students must experience Rigor, Relevance, & Relationship daily in class. A complete daily learning objective addresses 2 of the 3 components.

  4. Parts of the Daily Learning Objective • Thinking Skill • Content • Product

Common Myths • The Daily Learning Objective is the same as the PA common core standard • The Daily Learning Objective is the same as the agenda for the day • The Daily Learning Objective doesn’t need to be a complete sentence • The Product requires the student to write • All 3 parts aren’t necessary • The thinking skill and the product must be different

  8. 2. The Daily Learning Objective is NOT the same as the agenda for the day

  9. 3. The Daily Learning Objective SHOULD read as a complete sentence

  10. 4. The product does NOT require the student to write

  11. 5. All 3 parts ARE necessary

  12. 6. The Thinking Skill and Product CAN be the same (especially in Math)

  13. Activity Instructions • Read the Objective and determine if it is an “example” or a “non-example” of a Daily Learning Objective

  14. EXAMPLE • SWBAT describe the effects of the Revolutionary War in a thinking map.

  15. NON-EXAMPLE • SWBAT read textbook pages 3-10

  16. NON-EXAMPLE • SWBAT take Notes after reading about ancient civilizations.

  17. NON-EXAMPLE • SWBAT simplifyexpressions.

  18. NON-EXAMPLE • SWBAT complete a thinking map on molecular structures.

  19. EXAMPLE • SWBAT support their judgments related to political activism using evidencein think-pair-share.
