  1. REPENTANCE – TURNING FROM OUR EARTHLY WAYS Joshua 7:10-26

  2. REPENTANCE – TURNING FROM OUR EARTHLY WAYS “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face, and TURN FROM THEIR WICKED [EARTHLY] WAYS, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14

  3. REPENTANCE – TURNING FROM OUR EARTHLY WAYS *God had helped them defeat the kings of Sihon and Og. *God had given them a new leader in Joshua. *God had stopped the flow of the flood-swollen Jordan River so they could cross on dry ground. *Finally, God had defeated the powerful city of Jericho by miraculously collapsing the city’s fortified walls. *All of this was a sign that God was with Israel. Their confidence had risen to new, but dangerous levels.

  4. REPENTANCE – TURNING FROM OUR EARTHLY WAYS *The next city on their agenda was Ai. Joshua sends men to spy out the city and the spies brought back the message that not all the people would have to go up to battle. *The men of Ai routed them and killed 36 of them. They chased the Israelites from the city gate and struck them down. In verse 5, we read that the peoples’ hearts melted and became like water. *Something was wrong in the camp.

  5. REPENTANCE – TURNING FROM OUR EARTHLY WAYS STAND UP AND ADMIT THE SOURCE, vv. 10-13. MYTH #1: One Sin Won’t Hurt! We need to see sin as God sees it; it is not little at all; it is cheating on God; He hates it and so should we!

  6. REPENTANCE – TURNING FROM OUR EARTHLY WAYS II. STAND UP AND CONFESS THE SIN, vv. 18-20. MYTH #2: God will be gracious, no matter what we do or how we treat Him. Stand before God Identify fully the sin Make confession to God

  7. REPENTANCE – TURNING FROM OUR EARTHLY WAYS III. STAND UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, vv. 21-23. MYTH #3: I just couldn’t help it! I saw . . . . THIS DEALS WITH THE MIND I desired . . . THIS DEALS WITH THE EMOTION I took . . . THIS HAS TO DO WITH THE WILL.

  8. REPENTANCE – TURNING FROM OUR EARTHLY WAYS “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then when desire had conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.” James 1:12-16.

  9. REPENTANCE – TURNING FROM OUR EARTHLY WAYS IV. STAND UP AND RECEIVE THE CONSEQUENCES, vv. 24-26. MYTH #4: I’m justified, thus I am released from the consequences of my action. Not only was Israel the nation defeated but all that Achan held dear.

  10. REPENTANCE – TURNING FROM OUR EARTHLY WAYS “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” I John 1: 5-10

  11. REPENTANCE – TURNING FROM OUR EARTHLY WAYS “I know God doesn’t like this, but that’s just the way I am!” Or, “where sin abounds, grace does more abound.” (actually we forget Paul’s next words – absolutely not!) Then there is the excuse, “I’m not perfect, just forgiven!” Finally, “God understands my weakness and the reasons for it.”

  12. REPENTANCE – TURNING FROM OUR EARTHLY WAYS “Neither do I condemn you (that’s grace), but go and sin no more (that’s His command).” If we are to be victorious in battle, we must be holy in heart.
