  2. It was the rapid growth in the speed and convenience of transportation. What was the Transportation Revolution?

  3. Before this event occurred, it would take two weeks or longer to ship a package 639 miles. During the revolution, it would take about a week to ship the same distance.

  4. This increase in transportation occurred because of the invention of the steam engine. Video

  5. Steam Engine • Because of this invention, trade and travel was made a lot easier.

  6. Famous Inventors of the Steam Engine • Thomas Savery- Patented the first steam engine.

  7. Famous Inventors of the Steam Engine • Thomas Newcomen-Built the first steam engine.

  8. Famous Inventors of the Steam Engine James Watts- He also improved the steam engine. He discovered the power of the steam engine.

  9. During this time, new forms of transportation emerged. For example: • Railroads • Canals • Roads • Bridges • Steamboats

  14. Turnpikes • The Lancaster-Philadelphia Turnpike was built in 1795. Later in the revolution, when cars were being built, this turnpike became extremely popular.

  16. Steamboats Robert Fulton- American engineer who developed the first commercially successful steamboat. His most famous model was called the Clermont.

  17. The Transportation Revolution occurred in conjunction with the Industrial Revolution.
