Even though the temptress appears to be beautiful and loving, something that would taste oh so good, when all is said and done it is just the opposite.
“Bitter” - MAR, מַרUsed to denote the opposite of something, appears to be one thing, but in reality she is something else, the complete opposite.
Mat 23:27-28, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. 28So you, too, outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.”

2) To describe the opposite of justice and righteousness which should be sweet experiences, Amos 5:7; 6:12, therefore it is an emblem of calamity and injustice.
Rev 8:11,“The name of the star is called Wormwood; and a third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the waters, because they were made bitter.”
