  1. 1-3: The Ups & Downs of Thermometers Why do you think the liquid in a thermometer moves up and down when it is heated & cooled? • Within your groups, make a whiteboard with a BIG representation & brief explanation of how you think this happens • Let’s all try to explain it in hot water so we’re all on the same page • Don’t give up if you don’t know the answer right away….it’s part of the learning process!!! • Use your new knowledge of particle motion and temperature • Make your illustrations HUGE so the entire class can see and label things as necessary
