  4. How the UPCI is helping train peopleto meet the need Department of Chaplaincy Our Purpose To provide religious and educational instruction, resources, literature and other communications media that will assist in evangelizing the gospel of Jesus Christ. To identify, encourage and strengthen Christian education efforts and develop resources that minister to the spiritual and Christian education needs of individuals, families and organizations. The Need With over 1.3 million enlisted men and women in the armed forces, the need is urgent for Holy Ghost filled men and women to reach out to our military personnel. The Ministry A Chaplain attends to spiritual needs of people through conducting religious services, counseling, encouraging individuals in understanding themselves, interpreting theological/moral issues and ethical questions, supervising education and visiting the sick or troubled.

  5. Answering the call to bring the gospel to the military • Rev. Michael and Dianna Tuttle • Senior Pastor of the Turning Point UPC in Dordrecht, Holland, and • Bethel UPC in Landstuhl, Germany. • Military Ministries Coordinator for Europe and the Middle East.

  6. Bethel United Pentecostal ChurchLandsthul, Germany One of the Associate Pastors at Bethel UPC works at the hospital. The pastoral and ministerial teams work together, and most of them serve in the US Army or US Air Force. They are enlisted men and officers working side by side, hand in hand to offer a safe place of worship for our service people and families. At the same time they reach out to lost service members who are often open to God. They help backsliders and young people running from God to find open arms who are here for them. These are dedicated people who serve their country and then serve one another in the ministry.  Bethel is the headquarters church for the Military Ministries of the UPCI in Europe and the Middle East. You read in the newspapers about wounded soldiers who are sent or med-evacuated to a hospital in Germany; that place is Landsthul, Germany.

  7. Asia Military Ministries - Japan • Rev. Richard and Jean Lucas • The Asia Military Ministries’ Ladies’ Retreat in March at Okuma Resort, Okinawa Japan

  8. What we can dorecommendations from Rev. Tuttle • 1. Pray for the soldiers and their families. Often families are left behind for weeks and months while husbands and fathers and wives and mothers are deployed to areas in the world where their lives are in constant danger. Pray for their safety. Pray for the small group meetings, and military churches. Pray for unity in our leadership teams. Pray for those who visit the services to be ministered to. Pray for the lost. Pray for backsliders who are running from God. Pray for the locals who visit the services from time to time. • 2. Occasionally it is nice to receive a "care package" from home just to say we are thinking and praying for you. If anyone is interested in participating in “Care ministry to our Service people,” the Military Ministries Contact Team will help put them in contact with service people who will be happy to receive a care package. The Military Ministries web page will be updated soon to help with getting more information. Military Flat Rate Boxes can be sent from the local USPS for approx. $12.00 each (regardless of weight). • 3. If anyone has military family or friends serving in Europe or the Middle East, send their names and where they are stationed and the contact team will do their best to reach out to them.
