  3. Why would the church be opposed to the theater? What “bad ideas” does entertainment bring (think about what people say of music, tv and movies today)? For discussion, not writing 

  4. Well, near the theatre there were Cockfights and bear baiting

  5. Near the theatre Bawdyhouses, pubs and taverns

  6. Vendors hawking goodsPickpockets and thieves

  7. Irony, the church was opposed to the theater, but the church owned all of the land of Southwark and made money on this!

  8. Advertising was illegal • Thus, the flags- told type of play & showed the play was coming that day History/ war tragedy comedy

  9. Sights of the Theater • minimal props • extravagant costumes and makeup • no women actors • prostitutes and vendors • more expensive seats for higher seats

  12. Smells of the Theater Sweat Beer Urine (not one bathroom for up to 3000 people- no intermission- reason for higher seats as expensive)
