  7. Dismissal changes • You must enter dismissal changes on myCCS prior to 1:00 pm. I appreciate having a note in the GO folder if you know about the change in advance. • If a change occurs during the day, you might want to contact me as well as using the myCCS system. The best way to reach me is by phone. Please leave word on my voicemail. It is also a good idea to leave me an e-mail as well.

  8. Lunch • All students have a lunch account at MTE. You are encouraged to use the online system for this whenever possible. If you are sending a check into school, please put your child’s name on the check and on the envelope. • You may eat lunch with your child. Please let me know if you need to order a school lunch no later than 8:30. You can write a note in the Go folder or send an e-mail. Meet us in the first grade commons at 10:40 after checking in at the office.

  9. Money • Any money that comes to school needs to be in a LABELLED envelope (your child’s name) marked with the purpose for the money (I.E., field trip, book order, PTO movie night).

  10. Medicines • Students are not permitted to bring any medicines to school. This includes cough drops. If your child needs medicine here at school, you need to transport it via parent to the school nurse. Please refer to the MTE handbook for further details. • CCS Medical Update/Medication & Treatment Permission Form for 2012-2013. Please go online and update this form as soon as possible.

If your child is not in the appropriate shoe, he/she will not be able to climb at recess.

  12. Newsletters • I will be e-mailing the newsletter this year rather than printing it. A newsletter will posted on my website each Friday. Please look at the newsletter as it will have vital information.

  13. Literacy • Spelling (Word study) – Will be done by word families. • Will be assessed on Friday along with our two High Frequency words. • Sight Words – These words are not to be spelled by your student. They just need to recognize them and read them. Practice frequently at home to master these! Guided Reading - Will be done in small groups. - Others will be at literacy stations that involve reading and writing practice. Literacy Instruction - We will use stories, poems and songs to learn about many reading conventions, such as making connections , synthesizing, creating images and determining importance as we read. These skills will help us deepen our understanding of the text as we read.

  14. Math • Everyday Math uses games and visuals to help students gain an understanding of math concepts. We gradually move to more abstract concepts throughout the year. • Family letters should be put in blue Important Papers folder at home. Answers to Homelinks for the unit are on the back of the letter. • Homelinks are the homework pages for math. These will come home most nights. • Otter Creek Math (Rocket Math) will be starting after Labor Day. This program helps students master math facts. More details will be coming soon!
