  3. 혜민(惠敏) 스님 승려이자 미국 대학 교수라는 특별한 인생을 사는 혜민 스님. 한국에서 고등학교를 졸업하고 UC버클리대로 영화를 공부하러 유학을 떠난 혜민 스님은 하버드대에서 비교종교학 석사, 프린스턴대에서 종교학 박사 학위를 받았으며, 현재 미국 메사추세츠 주의 햄프셔대에서 종교학 교수로 재직 중이다. ‘혼자서 도 닦는 것이 무슨 소용인가. 함께 행복해야지.’ 라는 생각으로 시작한 트위터가 놀라운 속도로 리트윗되어 ‘가장 영향력 있는 트위터리안’으로 손꼽히고 있다. 수많은 기독교인들도 종교를 초월하여 좋아하고 따르는 혜민 스님은, 국내에서 ‘차세대 리터 300인’으로 선정되는 한편 월스트리트저널까지 극찬하고 있어, 명실공히 ‘영혼의 멘토, 청춘의 도반’으로 자리매김하고 있다. 하버드에서 비교종교학 석사과정을 밟던 중 출가를 결심, 2000년 봄 해인사에서 사미계를 받으며 조계종 승려가 되었다.
