  3. What is Work Experience “ A placement on an employer’s premises in which a student carries out a particular task or duty, more or less as would an employee, but that concentrates on the learning aspects of the experience”

  4. Why do work experience? • Develops your skills • May help with making career choices • Can improve learning and motivation in school • You can get a reference • You may get a job or apprenticeship offer

  5. Finding Placements • Database of previous years placements • Personal contacts MAKE SURE YOU CAN GET TO A PLACEMENT BEFORE YOU APPLY

  6. Finding Placements • Use Tutorial time in the morning • Visit Careers Office before school, during break and lunch • Make sure that you follow up letters with a phone call

  7. What needs to be done Return of Parents Permission letter Write letters and complete a CV Return of Placement form

  8. Deadlines for Health and Safety checking For London =End of term two Out of Area = End of term three All placements that need checking = End of term four
