  2. Outcomes: By using synectic mindmapping, teachers generate different ways of improving student writing as a craft. Utilizing Save the Last Word, teachers will study the 3 column of the rubric to provide students with effective feedback and make informed decisions regarding writing instruction.

  3. Synectic Mindmapping Synectics: experiments with alternative ways of dealing with the obstacles to success. Mind Mapping: used to generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas as an aid to studying and organizing information, solving problems, and making decisions.

  4. Sequence: Identify the Craft • Think silently what crafts or activities that you currently embrace. • Choose one craft that you want to explore and write it in your space • How do you hone and improve upon that craft? MIND MAP YOUR CRAFT OUT ON THE PAPER

  7. How is honing your craft like honing the craft of writing? • Make explicit connections between the two... Connect to to a place on your mind map. Teaching writing is honing a craft Transition this type of thinking to improving student writing.

  8. Looking at Student Work Round One: 10 minutes Read through the exemplary work we brought. Celebrate the great work that we do. Round Two: 20 minutes Round Three: 20 minutes Round Four: 20 minutes Looking at student work for feedback and instructional moves.

  9. If student work is at school: Download Narrative Student Writing Exemplar from wiki page under professional learning…utilize protocol. If more than one person does not have work: Utilize protocol around a dilemma for writing: Teacher presents dilemma Group talks about multiple approaches to dilemma Teacher who presented dilemma gets final word on next steps

  10. EXIT SLIP On a notecard please write the following: Name: School: One or more things that you learned or are going to use as a result of today. Please place in box by door when leaving.
