  1. Constructing Note Cards Topic of paragraph that this quote would go in “Your quote goes here” (Last name, line #). Because you are researching articles online, not in encyclopedias or books, you would reference the paragraph number that the line of text is found in within that article (just count the paragraphs). Last name, First name. “Title of article in quotes.”

  2. Constructing Note Cards Open with quotation marks “Ms. Tangas is an effective teacher because she creates analogies for new vocabulary words” (Shmoe, par. 2). Period goes on the OUTSIDE of the parentheses. Close with quotation marks, BUT don’t put a period. This is the only time in the English language where the rule is broken! Last name of author OR name of company/site (Example: CNN, Fox News, NJEA) Count the paragraphs in your article and record which paragraph your line of text comes from. If it’s a page of listed, bulleted, or numbered facts, just call it P. 1 Shmoe, Joe. “Why Ms. Tangas is Awesome.”

  3. Constructing Note Cards • Second set of 15 note cards due Thursday, 5/30 • One quote per note card ONLY • You will have more note cards than you’ll actually need – this is okay! • Place your name on the back of each note card in case you lose them • Must have citation at the bottom of EVERY note card – no exceptions!
